Colorado Springs with Sissy

Colorado Springs with Sissy
The Garden of the Gods truly is spiritual.

Important clarification: Sissy is my special Goldendoodle friend.
Sister is Carrie—my human sister and unpaid personal assistant.

When we checked out of the hotel in Gunnison, we headed into town, where the hoomans enjoyed a nice breakfast. As Daddy was sitting in the restaurant, he realized he’d been there before. He used to take trips out West with his daddy and his brother, Don. On the last trip he took with Don, they enjoyed breakfast at the very same restaurant.

Daddy was very close to his mommy, daddy, and brother Don. All three passed away within a year. All that sadness was a motivating factor in my sister’s decision to find me. I’m really sorry my people had to experience such grief. I’m equally proud that I was able to provide the needed therapy so life could be bright again.

It is only fitting that Sissy’s daddy was at breakfast too, since he is like a brother to my daddy. This was a special full-circle moment in life, and I’m glad I was present.

As I said in my last postcard, we enjoyed some shopping in historic Gunnison, a drive to Crested Butte that included a cattle drive, and more shopping in Crested Butte before we decided to head to Colorado Springs.

I was really happy with the cabin at the Colorado Springs KOA Holiday, the walkability of the campground, and the bonus waterfall by Sissy’s cabin. I loved that our cabin was on one side of the campground and Sissy’s cabin was all the way on the other side. You know what that meant? Lots and lots of walks and sniffs!

The couch was a little short for my people. I found it to be perfect, especially with my special blankets and Muddy Mat rug for a soft landing. Notice the table? Sister gets placemats featuring our adventures, and they are a fun reminder of the places we’ve enjoyed together.

Next to me on the couch is my BougeRV portable fridge/freezer. That is so important on a long trip like this when toting around a month’s supply of my cooked bison and quinoa!

There was a cabinet in the bathroom that kept hitting my people on the head. Sister redecorated it with some pipe cleaners as a visual reminder to take special care. That did the trick—nobody screamed out from the bathroom after that.

We didn’t just hang out at the campground, even though walking there was fun! We visited Garden of the Gods and took a scenic drive to a waterfall not far from town.

Sister took a wrong turn on the way to the waterfall. Before you roll your eyes at her, take a look at the fantastic bird sculptures we saw in someone’s yard as we made our way back from the wrong turn.

I think people get too wrapped up in what they call mistakes. Oftentimes, there is a lesson—or at least some beauty—to be discovered along an unexpected path.

On the way home, we stopped in Kansas to stay with Sissy for a few days. I love how Sissy and her pawrents make us feel at home! We really need to plan a return visit so the daddies can play golf together and we ladies can relax, giggle, and take a few walks through their amazing subdivision. So many sniffs!

This postcard wraps up our 2026 Spring Adventure. It was so much fun sharing with you. I hope you also enjoyed the journey. Until I write again next week, know that I appreciate you! Have a blessed week! Don't get upset if you seemingly take a wrong turnit might be the turn you need and just didn't realize!
